Factory Farmed is a film I’ve been carrying as inspiration since I started film school. Gareth Edwards and his team made this for the 48-hour Sci-Fi London Film Challenge a few years ago. Like his later film, Monsters, I love the film as much as how it was made. Small cast and crew, little money and in a short time. Just a few easy VFX pieces, some costume design and camerawork and music do the rest to build an entire world, create a mood and tell a neat little story. Elegant, efficient, effective, poignant and thought-provoking. This is the kind of filmmaker I hope to be. Well, and funny too. Gareth doesn’t really do funny.
